Unusual Temperatures for Wine

This statement rings true with many other experts who predict that, by the turn of the next century, the world's wine map will have dramtically changed. The expectation is that wine growing regions will spread towards the poles, with countries such as the UK benefitting from an increase in produce as well as the ability to grow previously difficult grape varieties. Other, more established wine growing countries such as Spain are suffering from the rise in temperature.

Wine is extremely susceptible to climate-change, even slight changes can wreak havoc on high-quality wine, making it particularly vulnerable to global warming. In a recent bow to climate change, French wine regulators in December 2007 approved the use of vineyard irrigation, reversing centuries of tradition to rescue regions suddenly too hot for dry farming.

Not everyone is buying the doom and gloom, many believe that scientists are exaggerating the risks. "I don't think anyone is trying to deny global warming," commented a well established vienyard owner. "But we believe that the influence is less than is being reported."
